NY Times sees no way for publishers to reduce costs

How Much Should an E-Book Cost? –

This is priceless:

“Publishers are caught between authors who want to be paid high advances and consumers who believe they should pay less for a digital edition…But…the costs of writing, editing and marketing remain the same.”

There’s just no getting around those $100/sq. ft. offices in Midtown Manhattan I guess. This point of view goes a long way toward explaining why the Times operates out of an $600,000,000 building. But then, the Times has done about as well with real estate as it is doing selling newspapers.
